Road Design

Integrating Safe System principles into every stage of road design to reduce crash risk for all road users.

By combining design expertise, evidence-based analysis, and the consideration of road user behaviour and vehicle performance, we deliver practical and implementable design solutions that enhance safety, performance, and usability across the network.

Road Design Review and Road Safety Assessment

At RSDH, we believe that good design is the foundation of safe roads. We focus on embedding Safe System principles into every stage of the design process, ensuring that the road environment actively reduces the likelihood and severity of crashes. We approach design from first principles, analysing how the combination of design domain influences safety performance and human error tolerance.

By integrating Safe System Assessment methodologies and iRAP Star Rating for Designs principles, we assess not just compliance, but the real world safety outcomes of design decisions. â€‹Our work is grounded in Austroads Guides, Australian Standards, and decades of experience in developing, reviewing, and teaching road design principles at both national and international levels.

Some published examples of our research and technical guidance inthe road design discipline are as below. This is further supported by our Director and Principal Consultants' previous membership of the Austroads Road Design Task Force and the Australian Standards MS12 committee.
